[XPS] – eXtreme Precision Soloing

A blog/site dedicated to Final Fantasy XI, catering to the soloing side of the game using Beastmaster as a subjob rather than event/boss strategies or high performance playing.

Please note that the strategies/information provided are primarily for players of the game with their Beastmaster job at Level 75, with the exception of Dragoon and Beastmaster itself. If you are new to the site, but want to get straight to the details of the job for soloing, please use the menu on the right to navigate to the desired job.

The information provided on this blog/site is written by me composed of various notes I have taken down while actively levelling the jobs with BST as a subjob. This is meant to be a guide only and is provided to you in my views only and what I found works and doesn’t work based on my lifestyle, playstyle and limitations, iso f feel you can improve on my recommendations, do so, you do not have to follow it strictly.Once you hit 75 on X job, everything goes out the window as you tweak your character for other activities.

With the popularity of “Astral Burning” thanks to the Level Sync feature, this site might be a bit invalid to some, but then again the people who do Astral Burn probably won’t be here looking for information on soloing. Anyways, your call whether you want to use it to help yourself get to 75 quicker.

History – A little backstory

The idea of soloing, especially in this game where the core aspect of it is comprised of grouping, is that you need patience. Fair enough, some of the audience viewing this site might just be looking for the occasional solo every now and then. This site is more specifically geared towards Beastmasters who already have the job at Level 75 and wish for an extension of the job.

However, don’t worry if you’re not one. Because Beastmaster is, afterall, the core reason how I was able to pull off the my other solos, so as a result a guide for the Beastmaster job is also included in the site. So do that first, then come back and do the others!

Dragoon was the initial job I soloed to 75, without BST subjob. Before I started on DRG, I was RDM main at the time and was in university full time with a part time job. To keep my studies up at the same time as keeping finances steady, I never had the time to wait for a party (there was also the lolDRG stigma back then). Thinking I can never progress, but at the same time I really didn’t want to stop the game, I seeked out an alternative way to play, which lead me to doing DRG solo after seeing the infamous Sea Horror solo video. Of course, people thought I was crazy at the time, and yeh it was a little, but hey it allowed me to play and keep up my other tasks. After achieving DRG to Level 75 solo, (cheaply via Easy Preys and EXP scrolls, ENM60 and EXP Rings), and extreme patience, remember this was 2005-2006 before the goodies came out) I seeked out BST which was the solo job at the time. Not very enjoyable initially, I was surprised that in the end after learning the job a bit and by Level 30 odd I found it enjoyable, I decided to take it to 75. What followed then is my interest for the job and after hearing the possibility of subbing the job for other jobs, I set out to do other jobs.

After much soloing, I also written several notes down but I never had the opportunity to publish them “for real” due to laziness. However, after much pushing from people and encouragement, I have decided to start up a site, hosted by my cousin, creating me a “sub site” to add to his other sites.

A few has asked me why I play the game and why not play an offline (RPG) game instead. Well, although EXP wise I strictly solo, other group events like Sky, Limbus, Assault/Nyzul and/or helping random people or chatting to random people is enjoyable, not available in an offline game, and so I keep playing for now.
